June's Highs & Lows

June 2017 Highlights: The Highs + Lows

In June, I spent more days at home than I did away, totaling a whopping 18 nights at my lovely house. And yet, somehow, it feels like I haven’t been at home all lately (likely because we’ve had so much company this last month).

June Highs & Lows

Here’s how this past month shook out:

Highs

I went to Sevierville for work, followed by a weekend in Knoxville for a wedding. Stay tuned for the posts from the Smokies—there’s no better time to visit than early June when the crowds are few and the weather perfect. And our weekend in Knoxville with all the Lunas present and accounted for was perfect.

Knoxville Wedding

Alex was here for almost two weeks! Even though I was just with one of my best blogging gals in Orlando in May at the opening of Volcano Bay, we didn’t have to say good-bye long as I knew she’d be in Tennessee for 12 days just weeks later. And what a blast we had, too!

I covered the CMT Awards again. While I’ve dramatically cut back on my red carpet work these days, there are two events I try to be home for each year: CMT Awards in June and the CMA Awards in November. Alex tagged along with me, and I got to talk to so many of my country loves like Brett Eldredge, Dustin Lynch and Chip Esten (AND REBA, GUYS).

I did Boomerangs and carpet coverage for PEOPLE’s Instagram and Twitter, in addition to a story or two, then we bounced and headed to my house as the awards show began.

I attended my ninth Bonnaroo. And it was my favorite one to date, too.

I wrote for National Geographic! It’s been awhile (read: YEARS) since I penned a piece for Nat Geo, so it was a nice surprise when they asked me to write an essay about Bonnaroo.

The Highs and Lows of June 2017

I went back to Knoxville, this time for work. How fun is it that I’ve had so many content projects so close to home this past month? A bonus that it was in my beloved Big Orange Country where I went to college.

Summer Travel to Knoxville

SVV and I attended a yoga festival at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. It may have been a tad bit disorganized (first-time festival, so I’ll cut them some slack), but one of my favorite yogis in the world was teaching at it, and SVV and I had some quality time doing acro with her and her husband. Plus, the scenery wasn’t horrible!

We did some patio demolition. If you’re thinking you haven’t heard about our home renovations in quite some time, you’d be right—and that’s because we’ve been gone far too much to actually work on our house! While I can’t promise that will change anytime soon, we are chipping away at some smaller projects like the back patio during the short intervals we are at home.

My cousin’s kids are here for two weeks. They come to my mom’s house for Camp Jeje (their name for her) every year, and each year it gets longer and longer. This summer, we’ve got them for a solid 14 days, and we’ve got so many fun things planned (swimming! waterfall hikes! art camp! Despicable Me 3!).

Cousins

Lows

My allergy shots aren’t working yet (…or are they?). I’ve been getting stuck in both arms every week since the first of March, and not only do I not feel any differently, but my biceps both swell up the size of a grapefruit every time I get an injection! Ugh. When is this supposed to get better?

SVV left me for 10 days. It’s usually me doing the leaving—I’m not used to the reverse! And while, sure, some time away is healthy (I guess?), after working together full-time for a year now, it’s hard for me to be apart from him for that long, particularly on his birthday! Boohoo.

Knoxville Wedding

Overall, though, June, you were indeed an excellent month. Coming up, I’m focusing on getting back to a clean-eating regime—something SVV and I were doing religiously for a couple of years, then we fell off the bandwagon sometime last fall. Wish me(/us) luck! I’m armed with Paleo ingredients and this ridiculously awesome cookbook and ready to get healthy again.

I’m back to my normal energy level which is quite a win for me. I found out my B12 was very low, and I’m finally up-to-par after ten weeks of shots. I have some awesome trips planned in the upcoming months, so I took it quite slow in June! 🙂

I need to go and have all this done! Is it part of routine tests in Holland? I want to go to some sort of doctor who will do all my blood work and tell me what I’m deficient in.

You’ve had a great month. I love the fact that you did some red carpet work as I always enjoy reading about who you interviewed. And the National Geographic piece? Yeeeees!

‘So sorry to hear about the allergy shot failures. 🙁

June was wonderful for me. I got to be a member of an academic discussion panel on Brexit, at the Humboldt University in Berlin. I got featured in Germany’s largest Sunday national paper, AND I did a radio programme for BBC Radio 4, so they flew me out and everything. It was pretty epic!

Oh man, I had MORE allergy shot failures this month (face palm). So excited to hear about all your success, dear friend!

June high: ….um, June was kinda sucky, actually, my high was probably discovering the perfect combo for at-home green tea lattes.

June lows: a WEEK of temperatures over 120*F, preceded and followed by months of triple digit temps regularly hitting 115. The cabin fever has been exhausting, and the heat is truly sucking my will to live. Garbage month, truly.

120?!?!? That. Is. INSANE. Glad we had much nicer weather in Utah right before that!
