Long before we went to the Florida Keys, there was Miami. We were there primarily to attend the iHeartRadio summer pool party this past June, but we managed to accomplish several other things on our Miami must-do list, as well, during our quick 48 hours.
Get VIP access to the hottest clubs. This will often take a whole lot of sweet-talking as we quickly found out, as well as a connection or two if you have it, but in the end, we got in (it helps to get there early before the crowds). And even though I’m not a club type by any means, it was fun to check out the scene for a brief hour or two.
Chill out poolside. Every hotel of any merit in Miami has a fantastic pool and also lounge chairs at the fringe of the beach. My only regret from our last visit is that we didn’t have more time to take advantage of said pool.
Find a red carpet and a photo booth and pose like you were born to do it. Work it, work it.
Hang with Ke$ha. You know, as you do. Just two Tennessee gals and a New Yawker (the lovely Alex in Wanderland) kicking it before her show.
Be the only man in a sea full of beautiful ladies. Or the only lady in a sea full of beautiful men (my preference). Increase your odds is what I’m saying!
Cruise around on your own private yacht. There are plenty of local yacht chartering services, or you can try your luck at Craigslist or similar to see if anyone’s up for giving you a ride and treating you like a sultan for a few hours.
Drink champagne on said yacht. Do so at 9am on a Saturday while possibly still hungover from the night before, and your baller status will reach epic levels.
Stay at the Fontainebleau. I’ve stayed at several Miami hotels (including the Raleigh, which I also love) but the Fontainebleau takes the cake. Luxe, opulent, sophisticated, sexy. You choose your adjective, and the Fontainebleau will own it.
Dine ‘n drink at the Delano. The Delano might very well be my second favorite hotel—I’ve spent some time there on previous trips down for Glamour shoots, way back in the day—and even if you don’t sleep there, it’s worth a meal or at the very least a cocktail.
Venture out to South Beach. The daytime scene may be mighty different from the nighttime scene, but either time of day you prefer, South Beach is a must do at some point during your trip.
<3 That weekend in Miami was so much fun! I do love the city – it can be so much fun if you know how to properly enjoy it.
I hope they do it again next year and invite all of us back again. Great group (minus, uh, one feisty participant…) 😉
Is it weird that I feel famous when I see my own face on Camels and Chocolate? And that it makes me want to plan a trip to Nashville to make it happen again….?
You are so funny! And I second that idea for you to come to Nashville so we can do a “How to Do Music City like a Baller” post as a follow-up to our Ke$ha escapades 😉
There is an unplanned chunk on my calendar in April/May, so don’t be surprised if I take you up on that!
Can’t forget Joe’s Stone Crab!! YUM!
Also, FYI you inspired me to apply to work on the M/V Explorer…and at the part where it asks how you heard about it I put your name. So if for some reason someone asks you, you can just say I’m some random girl from the internet who reads your blog religiously and totally non-creepily 🙂
Oooh that’s great news! I will definitely talk you up if asked 😉 They’ve actually hired three comms coordinators in the last two years on my referral so I’m batting 1000! What job did you apply for?
Really!? Wow!! Fingers crossed then 🙂
I applied for the activities staff position for the May 2014 Enrichment Voyage and Assistant Field Office Coordinator for the fall 2014 semester. I would be so, so thrilled to go on either. Your posts about it looked amazing and it’s right up my alley!
Such a fun surprise to see all these shots on C&C! And now excuse me while I plan a return trip to Miami…
Luna-Orth Florida vacation in summer 2014? WWoHP reboot and then a weekend to Miami? 😉
That sounds like one hell of a weekend! I’ve driven through Miami, but have never stopped in to check it out. Would love to!
You ladies ooze fabulousness. One day… one day… <3
As we sit here freezing in cool, Chiang Mai weather, the warmth of those beaches looks wonderful! Being beach bums might be our only way of achieving “baller” status 🙂
Wow,you guys had an awesome day! I love the photo of you ladies with cocktails! That’s how you rock!
Looks like you guys made the best of your 48 hours! Miami is my hometown. I haven’t been to a club here in ages, but it is nice to head to the Fontainebleau or the Delano every once in a while and feel glamorous. I also love taking regular trips to Key Largo for a change of pace. If you’re ever down here again, I’d be happy to recommend some non-touristy spots/activities. By the way, is Ke$ha like 8 feet tall?
Holy crap Kesha is tall! Sounds like a fun weekend. I totally approve of South Beach and champagne on yachts!
Such a fun post, making me miss Miami!! I’ve only been once and it was the craziest trip ever. We saw so many celebrities… my favorite was Draco Malfoy and still remains my best celeb spotting to date 🙂 (biggest Harry Potter nerd if you couldn’t tell!)
Seems like you girls had a blast down in Miami. Have you ever taken advantage of Las Vegas and the similar attractions that we offer?
Wow, you certainly were ballin’! You looked like you enjoyed every minute of it!
It’s nice to explore the luxurious side of travel! We all deserve it once in a while!
I really like your writing very much. And may all your days be merry and bright and may your Christmas be white! Merry Christmas!!
omgsh u met ke$ha lol, is she as much of a hot mess in person!? miami looks awesome, i’d love to go!
I’ve never thought of myself as a Baller baby but hey! it looks like fun. I could totally see myself on that yacht!
