I wish I could tell you what it is I love about Stockholm so terribly much, but I’ve yet to pinpoint it.
Perhaps it’s the kindness of the Swedes. While Scandinavians in general are known to be a bit standoffish, I found the Swedish population gentle and warm and friendly, nonetheless.
Or maybe it’s the fact that after more than a month of cold and pouring rain, we arrived to summer in Sweden. Locals will tell you there’s no better place to be in warm, summer months than Scandinavia, and as someone who once lived in Denmark, I’m inclined to agree.
It could be because we were there during a massive food festival and, as such, got to eat all the delicious things.
Or maybe it was those sweet, sweet midsummer nights when the sun doesn’t set until nearly dawn.
It also might have had something to do with my companionship.
Plus getting to see Hanna, an old friend from my Europe-living days who showed up with a bulging belly. (Surprise! She’s pregnant!)
Or the fact that the city was abuzz with excitement for the Royal Wedding, which happened the day we were leaving.
Whatever it was, I am sufficiently impressed with the Swedish capital, and it instantly made its way to my top five cities, ever.
