Photo Friday: Shenandoah River, Virginia

While traversing Virginia last month, we pulled over about 60 miles outside of D.C. for a little wander. Sometimes the best parts of a road trip are the ones that spontaneously happen. I’m a Type A planner when it comes to travel, so having a husband who forces me to just relax and take things as they come is crucial.

Especially when you’re traveling with a six-pound fur child who loves nothing more than being outdoors.

Surprisingly, it was pretty difficult to find a place where we could roam freely, as there were “private property” signs posted everywhere, but eventually we found just the spot.

We got out, took a stroll, fought off clouds of gnats, snapped some photos, watched Ella do a swan dive into the river to chase a goose that was taunting her, then once again were back on our merry way.

I agree. Sometimes unplanned stop takes you to the most interesting and unforgettable places. Love the pictures on this one. What lens did you use to make that cool effect?

      It’s a lens–the Sigma 4.5mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Circular.

I’m headed back to Virginia in two weeks for the first time since I was a kid. Very interested to see Roanoke!

These are gorgeous. I love the first one with the trees and of course the dog wins my heart.

She kind of wins our heart, too! Yours is pretty cute, as well =)

Love the fisheye shots – especially the one with the converse shoes!

Looks quiet and peaceful. Don’t you wish you could stay off the highways and just drive through areas like that and still get to your destination in a reasonable time? Maybe that’s just me though. That little Ella is too stinkin cute – bet that goose didn’t have a chance 😉

You’re really getting miles out of that fisheye. Pretty place so close to DC.

This is another region I’ve wanted to explore. I’d like to drive around road-trip style and if I like it cone back and tay in a cabin. Love that clse-up of your dog!

LOVE the first pic of Ella! I sincerely hope that ends up in a frame someday!

I also agreed that best parts are stops that you haven’t planned. You just really don’t know what you get and when you don’t know what to expect and when you don’t expect anything you can’t get disappointed.

Your circle pictures make me feel like I’m drunk. (Of course, the three rum and cokes are helping, but still.)

I’m from that area of Virginia and it really is lovely. We’ve got such a pretty state!
