Dream Destinations for 2015

Dream Destinations: My Top Trips of the Year

[shareaholic app=”share_buttons” id=”20872686″]

Despite what you may think, time management is one of my weaker traits. It’s not like I’m sitting at home watching TV or napping or wasting away my days in similar manners; rather, I’m forever online plotting new adventures and dreaming of my next big trip. Traveler problems, y’all.

SVV and I have some fun upcoming travel in 2015—Orlando next week for family vacation, Charleston for my sister’s engagement party, Bahamas in the fall for a dear friend’s wedding—but if time were of no concern? We have plenty of other dream destinations we’d love to include in our own personal lineup, which is what prompted me to create my own lil’ list of bucket list spots.

1. Hawaii for Thanksgiving

The year before last, we flew to the tropics the day after Turkey Day, and you know what I learned? So few people travel over Thanksgiving, it’s crazy. There’s a sweet spot between November and mid-December when hotel rates are lower and crowds are significantly fewer—i.e. it’s become my favorite time to travel. We had planned to do this Thanksgiving in Maui until the wedding in the Abacos popped up, so we’re putting Hawaii on the back burner for next year. Our friends visiting us at the moment are already talking about renting a villa in Kauai for several months in the spring so we can pop in when SVV’s and my schedules allow, and we’re hoping we can talk them into one of these Wyndham timeshares.

Dream Destinations

2. Colorado for Some Ski Action

Sure, we were in Breckenridge earlier this year. Sure, we’ve also skied Keystone and Vail in the past. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting to see even more mountain territory in one of my favorite states. Beaver Creek in 2015, anyone? I love to get my skiing done early on in the season, in January or even December, before the crowds really pick up after MLK Jr. Day, and there are plenty of properties under the Wyndham Vacation Ownership arm that I would be more than happy to hole up in for a long weekend.

Dream Destinations

3. New York City for Christmas

I may have lived in NYC for a few action-packed years, but it’s been more than a year since I’ve been back—my longest hiatus to date since leaving in 2007. There are so many new Broadway shows I’m dying to see, and while I’m not wild about the cold, there’s no denying the magic of Manhattan under thousands of twinkling Christmas lights. (Really, though, Manhattan any time of year is a treat.)

Dream Destinations

4. The Caribbean to Do a Little Diving

I’ve been fortunate enough to island hop throughout a good portion of the Caribbean, but some of the most beautiful spots, like the British Virgin Islands, continue to elude me. My top (attainable) vacation at the moment would be a chartered yacht trip through the BVIs, with a dive stop here and there for good measure, though Isla de Mujeres—another beachy locale in Mexico that I’ve yet to visit—has been popping up in conversation a lot and I do have my eye on this new Wyndham resort whenever it opens.

Dream Destinations for 2015

5. New Orleans for New Year’s

I’m just a quick direct flight from Louisiana, and yet I haven’t been down that way since my bachelorette weekend in 2010. There’s little I love more than walking around a gorgeous city, drink in hand, listening to live jazz permeate the airwaves. I think I’m overdue for a return, and ever since my girl Alex’s New Year’s fun in NOLA, I’ve been wanting to mimic her adventures.
