City Dog Explores Middle Tennessee’s Best Dog-Friendly Waterfalls

Ella here, stopping by to give you a half-hearted woof—it’s Monday after alland a peek behind the curtain as to what life’s been like of late for me (read: pawsitively exhausting).

Ella the Dog blogs

That’s because I’ve had quite the roster of visitors lining up come see me in Tennessee this winter and spring, though for a pup of my societal standing, it’s no big surprise, right? Still, my social calendar has been brimming, so much so that I’ve simply not had the time to blog since my blizzard follies back in January. My loyal subjects, consider this a thinly veiled apology.

First, the Hendricks clan—you may remember them from the gorgeous photos they captured of my aunt Kari’s wedding—decided to take their Airstream on a test run before setting out to travel the country for a year. My tribe and I met them at Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park and hiked to the waterfalls and sat around the campfire and had a gay, old time.

Other than Charlee tagging along (*eye roll*), it was the pretty perfect day.

On our way out of the campgrounds, I even spotted a mini one of her kind. As if one Charlee weren’t enough.

Then there was the pup just six months my senior who has more energy than any breed I’d ever met before. She answers to Mayhem, and after spending a weekend with her, I’d say that name was earned. Her parents Angie and Keith brought her down for the weekend—though she’d long been asking them why they couldn’t just put her in the mail and send her to stay with mom—from a foreign land called O-hi-O.

O-hi-O sounds pretty glamorous to me—do you think they have bacon there? how about rawhide treats? COWS?—and I’m hoping one day they’ll humor me with a visit. I figure I owe it to the kid after all.

Mayhem is Instagram famous, or so they tell me—Mom says I’m still too young to have an account; I say Instagram is for old fogies like her and all the cool kids are using Snapchat—and she’s also a heck of a lot of fun, too. She likes to run around (like me) and hike (like me) and not sit still for a second (unlike me; I’d sleep all day if Mom would allow it).

She also brought down her little sister, Moxie, who I was unsure about at first, but by the end of the weekend, we were pretty chummy.

Mayhem also vlogged our adventures, so maybe I’ll be famous someday. Even more famous, I should say.

We wound up going over to my grandmother’s house for the afternoon so Mayhem could chase the large wookie around in the yard until they were both worn out. I was only slightly disappointed that she didn’t take the wookie back home with her when the weekend had ended.

A few weeks after Team Mayhem came around, Mom and Dad’s good pals Layne and Brian popped in for a weekend from Virginia. And whaddya know, Layne is also from the Foreign Land of O-hi-O! I hadn’t seen them since our weekend trip to Asheville when I was the ripe age of three—probably because my invitation to their Hocking Hills wedding got lost in the mail … oh well, someone has to hold down the fort back here and keep those land beavers in our front yard in line—so it was high time for a reunion.

Mom gave them the abbreviated version of her Tour de Nashville and left me at home (*SIGH*). What was she thinking? She should know I can throw back beers with the best of them (long as I have a funnel, that is—my paws aren’t well-suited for pints).

We did take them up to my new favorite hiking spot, Sewanee Natural Bridge, and gave them the lay of the land, as well as stopped by Shenanigans for some, well, shenanigans (and more beer).

Somebody’s gotta take the reins, after all, and show the people a good time.

At this rate, Tennessee Tourism should hire me as their new canine ambassador with all the tour guiding I’ve been up to of late.

Speaking of visitors, it seems I’ve landed a permanent one in the form of a brother—and no, I don’t mean of the homo sapien species.

But more on that next time.

Double sigh.

Aww cute post! I wish Shiva could still run around the forest with me; with her arthritis she’s stuck enjoying nature from her little wooden cart. At least, she can still join in on the fun 🙂
