Photo Friday: South Lake Tahoe, California

[shareaholic app=”share_buttons” id=”20872686″]

When the early December storms dumped boatloads of precipitation onto California, SVV and I booked our cabin share as quickly as we could to enjoy one weekend of snow before we left for the holidays. Instead, we showed up to the South Shore to find zero powder and, instead, an icy tundra.

That didn’t seem to matter to certain polar bears present, one of whom was just! so! excited! to be in or on any kind of white stuff for the first time.

OK, maybe she wasn’t the only one.

Her mom and dad, both former Denmark dwellers, were nearly as pleased to be back in winter as the next citified California-Eskimos.

Our “backyard” at the cabin is really beautiful. There’s a peaceful river…

…that someone tried to make a splash in more than once.

There’s some thick brush, perfect for a game of hide and seek. (The pup’s particularly fond of that pastime.)

Ella aside, there’s even wildlife—and in the dead of winter at that!

We threw the ball for the bebe until our throwing arms were sore.

Time and time again, she sprinted across the tundra with perfect grace, bounding like an elegant bunny.

She’s always a bit like a jack-in-the-box, that one, but has a special spring in her step when beaches or, in this case, snow fields are involved.

(We’re not at all obsessed with our dog…whatever do you mean?)

As I type this, it’s 69 degrees in Memphis. I can’t wait to return to winter in Tahoe once again in less than a week!

I think the husband and daughter would agree.

(Once more now, with feeling.)

How about you: Do you share our enthusiasm for snow days?

I haven’t been to Tahoe in winter in far too long – it really is gorgeous up there, and the air’s so fresh! I know, I know, that was a really cheesy stereotypical City/Peninsula comment, but it’s also true. And Ella is once again adorable when running.

No, I totally agree. Even though it’s super clean in the Bay Area, you get to Tahoe and feel like you can “breathe again.” We’re going back on Thursday–can’t wait to be there!

Speaking of, when are you going to grace your home with your presence again? =)

      • January 3, 2011

I will be there at the beginning of March and can’t wait!

    Baby Sasquatch!

Not much on snow days myself. Yet adore seeing All your family playing and “jumping” on that white staff.

Gaelyn, we have a bit of an obsession with jumping, methinks. Then again, I was a star rebounder during my basketball days 😉

I would be obsessed too if that was my dog! Bahaha. These are so great!

The family that jumps together stays together!

Love it. That’s totally going to be our new motto–TM Home Sweet Sarah.

Sadly, I have zero enthusiasm for snow days. at all.
I will say that Ella does make snow look a lot more fun and adorable

A true San Jose native speaking =)

But do let me know if you two and Frankster make it to Tahoe any this winter, despite your aversion to snow–we’ll be there a lot!

Oh my goodness, little snow muffin, ADORABLE! For some reason I think my dog would have the opposite reaction to being in snow.

She’s really surprised me, Kyle–you think small, white, fluffy dog, you think prissy. But prissy she definitely is NOT =)

You guys look like you’re having so much fun! Happy New Year Kristin – I’m looking forward to reading about all your amazing travels in 2011!

SO fun!! I love this!! I’m all bundled up in my freezing cold house right now and can’t imagine getting that excited for snow, but your photos could change my mind!

  • January 3, 2011

I’ve got so use to being hot all the time, it’shard to imagine playing in snow at the moment.

Wouldn’t mind a 10 minute snow ball fight, then back to the sun 🙂

Poi: I’m with you. I much prefer the warm weather. Heck, San Francisco’s year-round 50- and 60-degree temps are too cold for me. But I do enjoy me some snow every once and awhile =)

OMG…your dog is ADORABLE! I love the ones of her running mid-air. Having only been in Texas, I wonder how my dog would react around snow for the first time. She would probably be so confused! It looks so peaceful and beautiful there.

Lovely, lovely set of snow pictures!! I miss snow! It looks so fun though I know I would be too frozen to smile!
AND, Yeah you are NOT at all obsessed with the doggie. Hee hee!

Nice new design (is it new? I totally missed the launch date sorry). I like it! Did you design it yourself? I’m looking for someone to overhaul my little bloggy too.

Oh my gosh, the puppy bounding around in the snow is so adorable!
