We hadn’t been on the ground in Cambodia for an hour, when our bus whisked us away to the Mekong River for a sunset cruise.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaAt first, I wasn’t so keen on being on a boat again when we’d already been on the Semester at Sea ship for two full months at this point.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaI had absolutely no impressions of what Phnom Penh would be like going into the experience, but was surprised by what a beautiful city it turned out to be.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaSeeing it from the Mekong River, in particular, was gorgeous, as the city has dozens of temples that make for an interesting skyline.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaDue to all the flooding in the area, the river was really high and moving quite swiftly, giving the odd sensation that we were moving even when still anchored at the dock.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaAcross from Phnom Penh, about a half an hour by boat, was a floating village.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaIt was a bit odd to be on such a tourist cruise across the river and to witness everyday life so up close and intimately.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaStill, I couldn’t help but think it would make a really great spot for a peaceful resort retreat.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaAt the aft, the boat had a heart made of Christmas lights, which was really funny as it felt like we should be on The Love Boat.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at Sea(We opted not to be that cheesy couple who posed under the heart. Maybe next time.)

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Semester at SeaAnd then an hour later, we sailed back to the capital, ready to begin our nighttime activities out in town.

Gorgeous!! I have yet to visit Cambodia even though Thailand is just a short hop away. Maybe next year on our Summer trip. 🙂

We were soooo close to the Thai border, and I really wanted to just “detour” for a quick minute =)

    I love visiting floating villages!

I love the silhouette of the fantastic architecture against the sunset. It made me look at the architecture a little differently.

It’s such an odd city because so much of it looks like much of Southeast Asia (albeit cleaner) then BAM! temples all up in your face.

Oh my gosh… I just saw the LibDub. It’s incredible. Are you in there somewhere??

Ha, I WAS, but you’d have to have eagle eyes to see me =) Originally, the field/admin offices had the walkway from the Union to the library to choreograph/dance on our own, but when shooting the actual lip dub, dozens of students rushed in and took over! Ha. So I’m in front of the camera for a split second after the dancers move down the aisle, and Scott is in it a couple seconds after that (then at the end, too).

But yes, it was a really great video; the comms team did such a good job on all of that!
