I wasn’t in New York City when the towers fell. I wouldn’t move there until 2005 when the skyline had already been forever altered.

New York CityWhile, at the time, I was in my freshmen year of college living with a roommate who was from New York City, I don’t know anyone who was a direct victim of the towers falling. Sure, I have friends (and a sister-in-law) who lived there at the time and experienced it firsthand, but I have no personal connection to the tragedy, other than watching in horror, glued to the TV like so many millions around the world.

9/11 Memorial in New York CityNew York City WTC MemorialOur parents talk about what it was like when we decided to go to war with Vietnam or how they remember exactly where they were when they got the news that JFK was assassinated. The towers falling will forever be my generation’s version of that.

9/11 Memorial in New York CityEven though Sept. 11 has come and gone, I wanted to share a few shots that SVV and I took of the new Freedom Tower at One World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial when we were there this past spring. Fittingly, we happened to be there on Memorial Day, and the museum had just opened. While we didn’t get a chance to go inside—this time—I feel this addition to the Financial District is something ever visitor must see.

Fantastic photos. I love visiting New York, but I shall be visiting in 2015, and I’ll never forget that sad, sad day. It’s one of the few events in our lives when we can remember where we were when the awful news broke.

I would have been only 8 at the time but I still remember that day and watching it all unfold on TV. I think those are images we will never be able to forget. I visited the memorial site a few years ago when the museum had yet to be opened, so I’d be very interested to go and see it next time I’m there. Nice post and lovely photos of my favourite city! x
