March 2017 Highlights: The Highs + Lows

[shareaholic app=”share_buttons” id=”20872686″]

Another month has passed at lightning speed, and it’s time to look back and see what I’ve been up to. This was a crazier travel month than most during which I spent 14 nights in hotels and 17 at my house. My work travel schedule is starting to ramp up for the year, and April and May are already shaping out to be as crazy, if not more so, than March. On the docket: Boston, New York, Charleston, Savannah, Orlando, Atlanta, the Smokies and Utah. And that only gets me through Memorial Day.

March 2017 Highlights: What I've Been Up To

But for now, let’s talk about March….

Highs

I worked on another cover package for Parade. Those of you who know me in real life may have heard my tales of one late night hanging out with Jimmy Fallon once back when I was an entertainment reporter. He’s one of the nicest dudes in the business, and the funniest, too. So it was doubly awesome to work on a cover package for Parade magazine that revolved around Fallon. While I didn’t get to interview him per se, I got to dig down into the root of what this country is doing for fun, and it was, well, just as fun as expected. And he gave a shout out to the issue on his show last Friday, too!

The Huffington Post featured me as one of its “best travel Instagrams for inspiration.” Thanks, HuffPo! If we’re not already friends on the Gram, you can find me here.

Girl power—10 days with my besties! March’s big highlight was a road trip to see so many of my girls. It’s rare I get to cram a majority of my best gal pals into a one-week trip but the stars aligned that Lemon was visiting from Austin and Jade and Augustine from LA and I got to see all of them plus the two Angies—Away and Fashion by Mayhem—on my recent 10-day road trip around the South.

I was a headline in Greece for a hot moment. Well, maybe that’s a stretch, but the major Greek daily Kathimerini newspaper did do a nice little spread on me. If you care about that kind of thing (i.e. if you’re my mom), you can read the English version here.

SVV is blogging! Several of you have noted that SVV has stepped it up with his guest posts, which previously averaged out to be a post every, oh, year or two. But part of the decision for him to leave his office job and come work with (erm, for) me full time was to help out with all our clients and my various day-to-day duties, blogging included. Well, he’s finally found his groove and has recently shared tales from Nordic skiing in Washington and visiting cacao plantations in Grenada, in case you missed them.

SVV is Blogging

Yes and Yes featured our home renovation. If you feel like we haven’t written about our house in awhile, a) you’d be right and b) that’s because we haven’t had any completed projects to share (read: traveling/working/life-ing too much) but c) Sarah stepped in and is here to fill you guys in on the nitty gritty on what it takes to renovate an old 1800s Victorian like ours.

More new contracts! We’ve really ramped up the clients on retainer this year, and we added a couple more awesome ones to our work roster for March. I’m loving the mix of what we’re doing lately, which spans marketing for small businesses, creative strategy for larger ones, native advertising for publishers, content campaigns and marketing initiatives for destinations, blogging and, of course, editorial work.

We found some killer mid century modern furniture. After lacking a key piece to completing our bathroom renovation for more than a year, we finally found it—and on Craigslist, of all places! I’ll blog about our near-completed bathroom soon, but here’s a sneak peek.

Lows

A general sense of lethargy. I’m not depressed or anything—everything is going pretty swimmingly here work and personal-wise for SVV and me—but man I have a dearth of energy and no motivation to work out anymore unless it’s AcroYoga, which feels more like fun than working out. Case in point: I have a half marathon tomorrow in Lynchburg and have barely trained for it! Sigh. Hoping I get my fitness juju back soon. Any tips to revitalize a lackluster workout plan?

What was good for you in March?

It was so fun to see you pop up on Sarah’s site! I’ve been reading Yes & Yes for years. Loved the little look into the reno and it was cool to see your YHL shout out as well. I’m glad Sherry and John are back to blogging sometimes and I enjoy their podcast. 🙂

Also enjoyed the Greek interview (in English of course)! I’d love to visit Greece someday!

Love the mid century piece you found for your bathroom. Niiice!

Wait, what? Did they mention me on their podcast? I LOVE YHL and somehow missed that!

Let’s go to Greece together 😉

And maybe you’ll get to see that bathroom reno in July!!!

Oops, no I meant it was fun to see you give YHL a small shout out on your Y&Y interview. 🙂

Next on my BIG travel wish list is Amsterdam and Prague and I’m hoping to do those sometime next year! Greece is definitely on my list though!

I’m pretty much 100% sure I’ll be in Nashville late night June 30-July 4! Just have to do the official stuff like book flights, see if any of my friends are coming with, and figure out where I’m staying! haha

Wow you’re a busy lady! Very impressive. We spent all of March in Romania and in that month we saw a huge transition from snow to hot summer-style days. The lambs are born and the meadows are full of wild flowers making it even harder to leave. But in that time I actually took down my dedicated Romania website, I’m merging it with my big one to be less of a headache for me and give it more bang in the search rankings. The rest of the year is looking promising, we’re off on our travels any week now, could be Asia/ Australia, could be somewhere else entirely as we enter year on the road. Happy with that 🙂

An inspiration as always! You make everyone else look a whole lot of lazy! I did a lot of writing, a lot of errands and a lot of planning, now that the weather is better, it’s time to get my butt out and explore!

    • April 2, 2017

Ha, rather I just make myself tired 😉

We finally had awesome weather today, too, so Scott made me get off my lazy post-half marathon butt to paint some planters. Slave-driver!

Good for me in March was the fact I’m kicking my reading game up again! I’ve read four books this month and I show no signs of stopping.

My short trip to Ireland was filled with highs and lows. Highs were the sunshine at the Cliffs of Moher, but the absolute downpour which stopped the St. Patrick’s Day activities in Galway were quite a low.

    Let’s hope for a beautiful April! 🙂

    • April 30, 2017

I really need to catch up on my book reading AND my blog reading. I feel like anytime I’ve been to Ireland, it’s poured—no matter if it was a day trip or a week trip. I’m guessing that’s just Ireland? *shrugs*

Sounds like you had a fun trip anyway, Dominique!

  • April 2, 2017

Looks like you had a great, but busy, month of March.
Very jealous of your upcoming trips, the southern states and NYC are the best! Hope we get to follow you on your trips 🙂

You bet, Bibi! I will be blogging and Instagramming it all =)

  • April 2, 2017

Feeling lethargic in March, too – for no particular reason other than I am over winter, and haven’t traveled since New Year’s! The rest of the year is going to kick ass, though!

    • April 2, 2017

Yay, I’m glad you’re excited about the rest of the year, because I am, too. And I think now that we had some marvelous sun and warmth this week, I’m out of my fun (I hope so, at least). =)

What a great blog you have and your Instagram is amazing!! I’d love to be a travel writer, so I’ll buy your book and look into it. Maybe one day… never stop dreaming. I definitely will follow your travels in the future. Thanks for your love of sharing 🙂 Here are my highlights of March (they do not quite compare with yours 😉
