After a late night of gabbing and bourbon, Sarah and I finally dragged ourselves out of bed and schlepped it over to the resort market for a little breakfast before getting in our arm workout for the day.
Kiawah has a pretty substantial kayaking and paddleboard center, with both rentals and guided tours available. Well, Sarah and I preferred the freedom of paddling where we pleased, so we grabbed a two-seater and went splashing out into the marsh.
I forgot what a great arm workout kayaking is. I kept strategically stopping for photo breaks—or rather, more accurately: resting my out-of-shape biceps (heh)—while Sarah, ultra-marathoner and supermom that she is, propelled us forward, closer and closer to the ocean.
We lasted the better part of two hours before Sarah needed to head home to retrieve the Urchin and I needed to get back to the emails that no doubt had multiplied exponentially in my brief iPhone absence. (Plight of being a business owner: Logging off is not an option.)
Another activity I planned to do while at Kiawah Resort was to go for a nice long bike ride but, uh, you can’t always accomplish everything now can you? (i.e. Work got in the way of fun and fitness. Again.)
My last morning on Kiawah was a foggy one, but I took a little stroll out to the beach to check out the real estate.
Turns out I wasn’t the only one who had that idea.
Mom, Dad and Baby, just out for a family breakfast.
Baby even got brave enough to venture onto the beach a time or two.
While I’m fully accustomed to seeing deer daily in Tennessee, it was a funny sight to spot them having a snack in the brush that flanked the beach.
Yet another aspect that makes Kiawah—with a well-known nature center, there are dozens of sea turtles and herons and other wildlife galore—such a unique and magical place.
