If you’ve ever looked at my homepage or my Instagram feed, you may have gotten an inkling of a hint that I’m a fan of color. When I travel to cities, I seek out bright, bold murals that really add a sense of community to the city, and SVV and I have a blast switching off behind the camera and creating our own playful interpretations of the walls and installations.

Note: We have since written an ultimate guide to Nashville walls and murals that details more than 100 murals throughout Nashville.

Fifty states and 100+ countries later, though, I’ve come to find that few places can match the street art scene as my own hometown of Nashville—and Google Fiber is adding to that mural landscape by leaving its own mark to #MakeTheInternet colorful!

Over the summer, I spent a good couple of months compiling the best murals in Nashville for the blog. It was a fun, if time-consuming process, and while I highlighted more than 35, so many more have since been added to the mix.

A couple of the new additions are thanks to Nashville newcomer Google Fiber, who has enlisted the help of 13 artists in five cities across the nation to make the world a more beautiful place. As someone who relies on speedy Internet to get her job done, I’m stoked for Google Fiber to bring faster, fairer and kinder Internet to Nashville, as well as make the city more colorful.

A big reason why I love street art of any kind is that it’s a unifying factor; it simultaneously stimulates creativity and fosters community, particularly in the age of social media when mural art is an Instagram darling—and what a fun way to make a splash in a new place, too. Well done, Google.

Since my last post on street art, I’ve scouted out these additional Nashville scenes—including two of Google Fiber’s three new installations—to add to your next mural hunt:

I love that the new murals not only make our city more beautiful but they also make the Internet beautiful, too. Thanks, Google Fiber, for adding to the fabric that makes Nashville so special and for giving us an excuse to go mural-chasing once more.

I’ve never been to Nashville, but these murals are another reason to go! I love them! I’d love to visit the three locations and share the murals on social media! Was going to go to Nashville last month as my husband was working the CMAs, but ended up in Scotland judging a pie contest instead…go figure! Next time! 🙂

    • December 19, 2017

Ahh, what did he do for CMAs? We live-streamed last year for Redbook and a couple other magazines but didn’t cover it this year (and it was a relief, ha!). Hit me up if you ever do make it here =)

I had no idea about Google Fiber but am glad to learn a bit about it through your post and know that they support adding color & art to our cities. I love the murals in Nashville! I keep discovering new ones here in Sacramento, and I just love how they make our city more colorful and creative.

    • December 19, 2017

Your posts give me a whole new perspective on Sacramento! I never knew it could be that cool (mainly because all my in-laws live in the character-less suburbs so I don’t get to go downtown much) 😉 Make Google Fiber will come there next!

thought you’d like to know – after last year’s killer inaugural visit to Nashville, Drew and I convinced our families to do Christmas there this year! I’m from IN, so we’ll be spending the days before xmas there, and the idea of flying to FL to see his parents was just TOO much to handle. So, we asked, ‘pretty please can we start a new family tradition and go somewhere fun where we can rent a house and chill out closer to IN?’ This weekend we arrive! So excited for a second dose of your city 🙂 Happy holidays!!!

    • December 19, 2017

That’s SO exciting! I won’t be here, but I hope you hit up all the murals and ALL the new restaurants. Message me for any tips you might need!

  • December 19, 2017

That’s my kind of partnership between a tech company and a community. The arts are what gives humanity a soul.

    • December 19, 2017

I so agree, Kirsten! Unfortunately, we aren’t eligible for Google Fiber in our home (yet, at least) but even though the first installs are just now happening this month,GF has been building a presence in Nashville for a couple years and already done several other fun art collaborations. I wish I was able to photograph their office interior as my friend Adrien (muralist of the iconic I Believe in Nashville walls) painted some seriously cool murals inside, and it makes me want to go work there!

  • December 19, 2017

Those murals are just everywhere, such a great way to add color to the city! And I like the matching outfit effort on many of the walls! I don’t have Google Fiber either, it may be the only Google thing I don’t have! Waiting for larger availability to check it out!

    • December 19, 2017

The funny thing is I didn’t even mean to match either! They’re just so colorful that it’s almost impossible to wear something that isn’t matching!

  • December 19, 2017

Yay! Thank you for this! A mural scavenger hunt is a really fun thing to do with kids in Nashville and now I know where to find the best ones! What a great way for Google Fiber to contribute to our city (besides super fast Internet, I mean!)

    • December 19, 2017

That’s a great idea: Christmas break idea with the kiddos? It’s supposed to be around 60 for the next week (provided it doesn’t rain!).

    Keryn

These are INCREDIBLE!!! I really want this project to come to Washington, D.C. so I can see something similar whenever I want to right in my backyard! The boys would love to come down and go on a mural hunt with you. Me too of course, but you know, I always need to entertain the kiddos. I’ll bring you the puppy. Ha!

  • December 19, 2017

So many cool murals! I can’t wait to explore Nashville with you… NEXT YEAR?!?! Please!!

    • December 19, 2017

I would gladly guide you through a personalized mural tour of Nashville, you just say when!

  • December 19, 2017

These are brilliant! It’s hard to chose but I think the blue one (Gulch) is my fav. Wish we had more street art in my hometown.

    • December 19, 2017

That blue one is great! And So central, too. I loved the orangish one in East Nashville, mainly because I like a bold, in-your-face color palette 😉

  • December 20, 2017

These murals look INCREDIBLE! Wherever I’m traveling, I make a point to seek out street art. Looks like I’m in need of a Nashville visit so I can explore these murals myself. Thanks for the pro tips!

    • December 31, 2017

Have you ever been to Nashville, Rachel? I can’t remember. Nevertheless, 2018 needs to be the year you make it back here =)

  • December 22, 2017

Didn’t know that Nashville has such amazing street art. Love your fun shots, it’s a great virtual tour of the city. Excited to see what Google Fiber has in store.

    • December 31, 2017

Oh yeah, it’s EVERYWHERE here. I would say it’s thanks to our iconic I Believe in Nashville murals (the first of which was installed in 2011, I think) as I don’t remember much street art prior to that.

  • December 23, 2017

When it comes to street art you are the master of finding the most colorful and fun murals. Let’s go on a street art date when I make it down to Nashville!

    • December 31, 2017

I’ll take master any day! Though you have some great street art posts I want to use as my city guide (Baltimore, Richmond come to mind) =)

  • December 23, 2017

Seriously, that big dog mural makes me cry! What a gorgeous quote!

  • December 26, 2017

I love this! They’re so pretty and I love that companies are using street art to brighten up spaces and add colors to our cities.

    • December 31, 2017

I agree! It’s a great way to turn havoc into beauty in many cases. Can’t wait to see Richmond’s street art scene one of these days! =)

  • December 26, 2017

I live in Albuquerque and we need more street art. Unfortunately, ABQ is a city with a hurt ego – we rank poorly in education, there is a lot of violent crime here, our politics are outwardly corrupted, and our youth is disenchanted with the place and thus become involved with gangs or grow up and get the hell out of dodge as soon as they’re of legal age and never look back… oh yeah and we suffer from tremendous brain drain – but my point is, the cities I’ve visited that display such intricate, massive, colorful and awe-inspiring art are the ones that represent true communities. I wish for more of this throughout the whole of ABQ. Our South Valley, which is largely a Spanish-speaking community, is exactly that… a community. Their streets and buildings are covered in ethnic art with powerful messages and although I don’t identify myself with that culture, per say, I do feel like the art provides me insight and therefore helps me to relate in some sense of the word with the people who are from there. Anyway, thanks for sharing. 🙂

    • December 31, 2017

Ahhh, that’s too bad, Jess. I really like ABQ from what little time I’ve spent there, and I can see from your explanation how the city could wildly benefit from a little community engagement and encouragement.

  • December 30, 2017

Wow, I love this post. I’m also a big fan of street art and colourful murals! Never been to Nashville but would love to go there 🙂

    • December 31, 2017

You need to come! It’s one of the most vibrant cities in the US, for sure.
