Gangnam Style Parody in Scotland

Europe Gone Gangnam Style

[shareaholic app=”share_buttons” id=”20872686″]

Today is my sister’s 24th birthday. Yesterday, she left me for the “big city,” as she moved her life to new Southern horizons (Charlotte, North Carolina…for now). On Wednesday, she starts her job as a CPA at one of the Big Four firms, at which point they’ll ship her off to training in Chicago and Atlanta. So there never seemed a better time for her big “viral” Internet debut than now, wouldn’t you say? Particularly, as my blog is the first thing that comes up when you Google her name. Don’t you think all of her accounting and finance acquaintances will be even more blown away by her prowess when they witness her sweet moves?

This might be the best thing that’s appeared on my blog—in the words of Taylor Swift—“like, ever.” You’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t watch from start to finish. Trust me on this. Have I ever steered you wrong?

And if you haven’t seen the Gangnam Style video—or heard the song on the radio—then, frankly, you need to get out more. Be sure and read the inspiration behind the genius parody if you haven’t already done so.

(Note: PC users who are getting an “Error” on the video can click here to watch it.)

    WOAH,
Kari, never you knew you were the real dancer in the family!!! I always thought it was me. Torch has been passed….

    • October 8, 2012

And she didn’t even “Creep” in this video either! I already foresee the sequel with you and JR and Andrew as her backup dancers.

      • October 9, 2012
        Lindy

Oh man, Kari and Kristin were superb but my vote is for Jeanie’s mad skillzzz!!!

  • October 8, 2012

Love this! It kind of reminds me of Dancing Matt!

    • October 8, 2012

I love Dancing Matt! He and Kari should go on the road together! I’ll be the Official Enabler/Videographer.

  • October 8, 2012

That was Totally Awesome! Your sister, and you, are Stars.

    • October 8, 2012

She is! The sun even, I’d say. She shines so bright!

  • October 8, 2012

Hilarious video… so much fun to have that as a memory from the trip as well, I feel like I want to travel with your family, is that strange, you all seem like so much fun!

    • October 9, 2012

We do have fun, always! Come along on our next trip! Do you dance? πŸ˜‰

      • October 12, 2012

I dance for the embarrassment of my husband and for the entertainment of my children but I can also make an exception for travel!

  • October 8, 2012
    jeJe

Loved it…except for the old lady of course!

    • October 8, 2012

      Who, Sheila? πŸ˜‰

      • October 9, 2012
        Lindy

False! She was the best part!

  • October 8, 2012

This was HILARIOUS! I especially loved the part where Jeannie was dragged around. But what I really want to know is where did Kari get her amazing turquoise sneakers?!

  • October 8, 2012

Okay, I am one of those “you-need-to-get-out-more” because you just educated me on what Gangnam style is! I have been seeing it, but haven’t really taken any time to figure out what it is!

    • October 9, 2012

“Need to get out more” translates to “works too much” in your case!

      • October 11, 2012

By the way I forgot to say your sister is a SUPER good sport, my sister wouldn’t do this in a million years! Go Sis!

  • October 8, 2012

This just confirms for me that it’s time for the Lunas & the Orths to travel together again. Can we PLEASE set something up for 2013? YouTube needs us.

    • October 8, 2012

We were just talking about that on this trip! Maybe we could meet in South Carolina or coastal Georgia for a beach weekend sometime: You and R can drive up from FL, Mom and I can drive over from TN, and Kari can drive down from NC. Or we can all invade Kari’s apartment in Charlotte—apparently, her walk-in closet is bigger than my entire NYC apartment was =)

  • October 8, 2012

Best thing I’ve seen in weeks!!!!! Who was the lovely person to think to do this?

    • October 8, 2012

Kari taught me the dance, and I said “we should film you doing this all over Scotland!” and she was like “OK!” and suddenly, it became the goal of our trip =)

  • October 8, 2012
    Marisol

Wow! That’s awesome! I’m going to try to incorporate that at my wedding reception. πŸ™‚

    • October 8, 2012

A Gangam Style processional/recessional/flashmob? BEST WEDDING IDEA EVER.

  • October 8, 2012

    JASHSHEA

This is beyond fantastic. Your family parties must be a force to be reckoned with. HBD, Kari! Welcome to CLT!

  • October 8, 2012

    This is awesome.

    • October 8, 2012

Can we teach LG to Gangam, you think???

  • October 8, 2012
    Cat

Haha! Loved it! Couldn’t help but smile. I must learn that dance except as uncoordinated as I am only hilarity will ensue.

    • October 8, 2012

But that makes it even more fun! I’m right there with you, sista =)

  • October 8, 2012

You guys are awesome!! I love this and it made me smile and laugh! Loved it! The part in the phone booth made me laugh the most!

    • October 8, 2012

That’s my favorite part, too! I love how she was all, “there’s a phone booth! Should we pull over and let me Gangnam?” when we were in the middle of absolute nowhere. My sister is the cutest.

  • October 8, 2012
    Dayla

Shut Up! Luna Sistas Unite!!! This is my fave. Ya’ll are so precious!

    Ginny

So, whose been taking dancing lessons from Gabe? We love the video…and Jeanie too!

    • October 8, 2012

I did the Michael Jackson/Gabe today for Scott, and he was all, “where did you learn that?” and I said “from Ginny’s text videos, obvs!”

  • October 8, 2012

I love your site but this is definitely the best thing I have seen on your site.

    • October 9, 2012

Ha! I agree. I need more dancing fools to make cameos on my site from time to time, clearly.

  • October 8, 2012

    Rock and roll!

  • October 8, 2012
    Patty B

made my day! You guys rock!!

  • October 8, 2012

    Kasia

That is the best made me smile all the way through, love!

    • October 8, 2012

Yay! I was absolutely dying behind the camera the entire time. Not sure when my shy, reserved sister turned into such a ham!

  • October 8, 2012

This is amazing! I am cracking up – thanks to you and Kari for this wonderful gift to humanity. And good luck, Kari!

    • October 8, 2012

She’s at your company now as of Wednesday–I was just telling her today that you guys would have to get acquainted via that fancy in-company chat you have =)

      • October 8, 2012

No, she’s at my ex-company – thought you knew! Bummer, otherwise I would totally find her and IM her with “hi, I am your sister’s internet friend”.

        • October 8, 2012

NO! I had no idea! When did that happen/how did I miss that???

  • October 8, 2012

HA! This is genius. Gangnam Style is taking over the world! I just came back from a trip to Mongolia and the Gobi Desert and I saw “Gangnam Style” spray painted on walls there!!

    • October 9, 2012

Really? That’s hysterical! Now, I want her to do it all over the world…we should start in Mongolia πŸ˜‰

  • October 9, 2012

    How cute! I LOVE it!!!

You should submit your video to this site:

    http://www.KpopDanceVideos.com and http://everything-gangnamstyle.com πŸ™‚

    • October 9, 2012

Ha, OK! Will do. I just submitted it to Ellen, too. We loooooove the Ellen Show here, and my mom was all, “you should send this to Ellen!” and lo, on her site, they’re calling for Gangnam dance dares!

  • October 9, 2012
    Aimee

Hysterical! Thanks for the laughs and I shared it around the office so a bunch of Swedes have enjoyed watching your sister bust a move.

    • October 9, 2012

Awesome! I can tell her she’s now gone international =)

  • October 9, 2012

This is just awesome! Kari is rocking out gangnam style and I love how she danced all over Scotland without being bothered by the people staring at her in amazement (and jealousy obviously!)
    So cool, I love it!

    • October 9, 2012

She used to be so shy, too. I love how she’s come out of her shell these past couple years. She is SO fun to travel with!

  • October 9, 2012
    meg

THIS IS THE BEST THING EVERRRRR!!!! I wanna travel w/ da Luna sistahs!!!!!!!

    • October 10, 2012

      Can Beans come??

      • October 10, 2012
        meg

Beans loves to travel!!!! He’s gonna have his first airplane ride real soon too! πŸ™‚ Hope all is well in Tenn! I love following the #VicReno instagrams!!!! <3 such a dream

  • October 9, 2012

hahahahaha I can’t believe you Gagnam-ed all those places. Nice.

  • October 9, 2012

So adorable… all three of you! How can the two of you be so tall and blond and your mommy is so petite?!

I thought the best part was the fleeing lamb until I saw the bagpipe player, kilt and all.

Best birthday gift ever from sister to sister.

    Happy birthday to Kari!

    • October 9, 2012

Maybe we really are adopted? πŸ˜‰

Apparently, we look just like our dad—only with blonde hair. He’s tall-ish (5’11”), and I’m built similar to him. And re: our hair color, both of our parents were blonde as kids and then turned brunette as teens–they always told us the same would happen to us, but at 29 and 24, it hasn’t yet (especially to Kari, who is still practically towheaded!).

  • October 9, 2012

Very entertaining – gutsy move to do that in the streets of Eire
without alcohol in your hands!! Great job. W.C.C.

    • October 9, 2012

Ha! Well, you don’t know what we were doing before and after the dance… πŸ˜‰ We did spend a lot of time in the pubs, that’s safe to say.

  • October 9, 2012

this video made me so happy – especially when all three of you started dancing in the street. thanks for providing a little break in my day to laugh!

    • October 10, 2012

My mom still needs a little practice with her Gangnaming πŸ˜‰

  • October 9, 2012

    Best video ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • October 9, 2012

This is hilarious! Your sister is a hoot and a half. I would be so self conscious to do something like this (I’ll sing all the karaoke I can but dancing is another story). Looks like you guys had a blast making this! πŸ™‚

Good luck to Kari at her new job!

    • October 10, 2012

She is such a good sport! She used to be so shy, too. I love this new, confident Kari.

  • October 10, 2012

This video made me laugh. LOL! At least, you had a lot of laugh and fun :)))))

  • October 10, 2012

Haha I was laughing hysterically through this, she’s actually pretty good at the dance!

  • October 10, 2012

Love the eyebrow action and the plane scene.

I would never guess she was a CPA. Smart + fun = an attractive combo πŸ™‚

    • October 10, 2012

      Don’t forget “+ hot”! πŸ˜‰

      • October 10, 2012

Well, natch – look at her πŸ™‚

  • October 10, 2012

I really love this video! LOVE!

  • October 11, 2012
    Amy

I love this! So much fun, and what an awesome “souvenir.” I am envious!

    • October 12, 2012

I stopped collecting traditional souvenirs years ago, as I feel like photos and videos are all I need! (That said, I do like buying clothes when I travel, ha!)

  • October 11, 2012

Oh Lord…that it too funny!! πŸ™‚

    • October 12, 2012

Now I wonder how we will ever top this on our next girls’ trip…UNLESS we can get the sheep and the cows to dance WITH US. Hmm, now there’s a thought…

  • October 12, 2012

Kristin, this is hilarious. You and your sister are so cute! I can see the happy fun radiating off you. Also, I LOVE that you got the bagpiper to do it with you. Was he a Gangnam style fan too?

    • October 31, 2012

He had never heard of it! Hence our need to educate the world on the beauty that is PSY =)

  • October 13, 2012

I can’t decide if this makes me WANT to travel with you or TERRIFIED of doing so!!

    • October 31, 2012

Let’s just say I took it easy on you when we went to Napa last summer… πŸ˜‰

  • October 25, 2012
    Lauren Williams

    Dear Kristin Luna,

Carolyn Williams told me about this over lunch today and I had to do some investigating. I had not heard of this “Gangnam Style” stuff until last week, but it’s possible I don’t get out THAT much. This is pretty good, and I like Kari’s turquoise TOMS. Or at least I think they’re TOMS.

    Sincerely,
    Your BFF

    • October 31, 2012

I feel like the Luna + Williams sisters doing Gangnam Style would = Internet gold. Tell me you don’t agree…

(The shoes Kari wears are turquoise corduroy TOMS that are actually mine and also some bright green Merrells that hopefully *will* be mine come Christmas!)

  • January 11, 2013

    Hi Kirsten and Kari,
Just read you whole blog, and as an Hotelier in Ireland, was truly heartened, amazed, uplifted, entertained, and any other positive emotion available. After reading your insightful blog, your truly exquisite photo’s and vimeo clips, then the icing on the cake, “Gaelic Gangam” . You must all have had such fun, on this trip. My 8yo daughter is still laughing at the Dance Routine.

    Is the Video Shareable.
    Safe Travels,

    Frank Corby,
    General Manager
    Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry, Ireland

    • January 17, 2013

Your comment made me very happy! We love Ireland, and it seemed the perfect landscape to dance around in =)

  • January 18, 2013

This is great!!! Gah, just thinking of how many different places y’all had to be to film that is mind-bogglingly awesome! πŸ™‚

    • January 18, 2013

Thanks, Jess! It was a whole lot of fun, and my sis is such a good sport!

  • January 19, 2013

First of all, I take issue with your statement that if I have not seen the Gangnam Style video that I need to get out more. The fact that I do not watch television (other than Dexter) or pay attention to pop culture web sites (i.e. staying in and wasting time) is the reason I had no clue what this was until a month ago.

Second…. this is fucking awesome. Nice job!

    • January 20, 2013

And they don’t have radios in Ohio either? πŸ˜‰ Kidding, but in all seriousness, we were in Scotland and Ireland the week this kind of went viral in September (even though it was put on YouTube during the summer), and it was on every radio station and playing in every store and public space we visited. And now, it’s upward of 1 billion views on YouTube, which is just INSANE.

  • March 2, 2014

Thanks for one more useful blog. The place more might I get that type of information developed in a really perfect signifies? I have a venture i’m at the moment doing work about, and I’ve also been at the seek out similarly info.
