City Dog Goes West: From Utah to the Dakotas

[shareaholic app=”share_buttons” id=”20872686″]

Holla. It’s Ella the Dog here, reporting from one of those Dakotas (I can’t remember which). I hijacked borrowed Mom’s computer, because I’m sure you’re all dying to know how the road trip is really going—and from a pup’s perspective at that. Well, as always I’m all about keeping it real, so I’ll give it to you straight: It’s a lot of driving. In just over two weeks, we’ve gone more than 2,000 miles. I’m not good with numbers, but I’m pretty sure that’s a whole bunch of miles. Good thing I got my driver’s license!

No, I kid. I’m not even one yet, people! I’m pretty sure I have at least another few months left before I can head down to the DMV to take my test. Besides, I prefer not to have to lift a paw if at all possible, and thus, my people parents constructed a throne in the backseat for me so I can see and be seen while still being 1000 percent comfortable, as is my MO.

I’m pretty happy about my new post.

But the coolest thing about traveling in the West is all! that! grass! I don’t have to relieve my bladder on a four-square-foot piece of absorbent plastic any longer .

In fact, while we were in the Canyonlands, Mom and Dad even let me off the leash to run laps for a bit! You can tell I was ever so slightly stoked.

Check out my moves, yo:

Faster than a speeding bullet!

But the best part of the whole trip so far was South Dakota. We stayed at a campground with WILD GEESE, and after so much rain and so many days of being cooped up indoors, Mom and Dad let me out to chase them! It was the best day ever. So what if they were terribly rude and honked in my face (see: 1:55)? I didn’t care. Next time, that goose will be mine…for dinner (*licks chops*).

Yeah, I’ve got a pretty killer life. No complaints here.

xo,

Ella

You come up with the most amazing ideas…I love this! and the pics of her runnning are precious. And her thinking she is as big as those geese!

Miss Carla, I resent that. I totally tower over those shrimps! But I will agree with you on one fact: I am pretty darn cute.

Too much, just too much! Love Ella!!!

Thank, Miss Andi. Word on the street is that you just went south of the border and got you a new husband! If my Mom and Dad are any indicator of how things work, first comes love, then comes marriage, then when you land from your honeymoon, you get yourself…a puppy! You need to get on that.

HAHAHAHA Go Ella! I LOVE your Jumping photos : )
Looks like you wanted to get close to those Geese! How cute : )

Looks like your having a wonderful time : )

Brittani, I’m actually just teasing those geese. I’m lightning fast, and if I wanted, I could make them MINE! I just like them to *think* they’re just out of my puppy clutches.

You’re so lucky she’s a good car rider! I’m glad you guys are having such a great cross-country trip!

Jessica, I didn’t always use to be so. I used to upchuck every time we’d hit a bump on the road in San Francisco, but practice makes perfect, right? The fact that my people built me a throne helped. A princess as regal as me needs to look down on everyone, after all.

You know, I was curious how the little puppy was going to do on the road. Sounds like she’s one happy little pup! That picture of her running is BEYOND adorbs.

Monster, I’m happy! always! Mom and Dad were worried I’d blow chunks the whole way—I get car sick all. the. time. just driving around San Francisco—but 2,000 miles and not one spew! Go me!

Definitely takes after her jumping Mom. But doesn’t seem like much of a swimmer. Probably a good thing or there could have been a show down.

Ms. Geogypsy, actually I have taken to the water quite well! I did a belly flop into the middle of the lake in California to eat a pigeon for lunch, and just yesterday, I waded all the way to my chin in a pond to chase some more geese. It’s that stupid harness my people make me wear–a girl just can’t float with that sort of apparatus weighing her down!

Sorry to offend Ella. I think your people should get you a life preserver.

Seriously, where is the Ella Reality Show when you need it?! LOVE. Great capture of her jumping. Would love to know the specs of how you got a shot like that. Continued safe travels and fun!

Mom said she’s going to let me write a book someday—or maybe even a series—so my legions of followers can read about my every move!

I love your action shots, Ella!

Thanks, TMG. Think Pat would give me a spot on her team? I can rebound like nobody’s business. With Briana Bass graduating next year, somebody’s gotta assume the position of Team Shrimp, am I right?

      • June 3, 2011

I’m sure she’d consider you, but only as long as you keep training hard and always listen to your mom and dad!

  • June 2, 2011

Haha, I LOVE that flying shot of her!! Such a spoiled poochie with her pretty pink quilts and personal photographer. Love it!

Ahem… Ella… tell your ‘rents that the video would be so much better with the movie camera they acquired last year!

Jeje, I hear you have a fancy new camera and that you intend to follow me around with it while I’m living with you this fall so that Mom and Dad don’t go through complete withdrawal being away from me for so long.

  • June 5, 2011

Too adorable. Look at the height she gets!

What a happy puppy!!! Can’t wait to steal her and take her up to Knoxville next fall!

Mister Sister, I’m going to need a vacation every now and then to get away from those five other horribly misbehaved dogs, so I sincerely hope your serious in your intentions.

  • June 10, 2011

Love the photos – does she ever go in the water? I don’t recall seeing her in water in any photos.

Miss Andi, I just love the water! I went flying into the pond outside of Vacaville when Mom and Dad stopped to let me go pee! I’m a bit weary of getting my mane wet, but I’m the proud new owner of a puppy life vest so if this weather ever clears up (i.e. it stops raining), I’m going to give swimming another shot.

Love Ella’s levitation act! How lucky for all of you — you & SVV able to travel with pet, Ella able to come with you instead of being left at home. And my goodness, what a lovely blanket on her backseat perch! 🙂 (Amazed it’s held up, I thought sure it would be shredded by now). What a lovely road trip you’ve had. I like the kind of travel where you can bring your pets.

Auntie Joy, I positively adore my homemade quilt and sleep on it always! I’ve taken extra special care of it since I know someone put a lot of TLC into making it.
