Traveling to Cabo, Mexico

Cabo San Lucas Through the Lens

I can’t claim to have truly “seen” Cabo; after all, my entire day there was spent underwater diving in one of Mexico’s national parks. But what I did see was a stark contrast to the image of Cabo in my mind.

For one, the glimpses my Enrichment Voyages dive group and I caught of it from our little dive boat out at sea were truly breathtaking.

It is devoid of huge crowds like the Caribbean side of the country, boasts beautiful rock formations, is home to a smattering of Central American bird life.

Offers fantastic underwater thrills.

But despite its peaceful facade from Pelican Rock, there are also times in harbor when it’s quite evident that Cabo moonlights as a party destination; I think the, uh, interesting (to say the least) choice of boat names—not to mention, accompanying graphics—says it all.

Yes, Cabo may be beautiful, but beaches and water sports aside, it has somewhat of a naughty side.

Though I’m sure if you asked a local about this, he’d just shrug and respond: “Pura vida.”

It’s on my dream destination list!

Looks really nice but I giggle at the special medicines available in Cabo. 😉

Luckily, no one needed to purchase any (unless they did so in secret!).

It’s a destination that’s been on my list for a while. I really need to get to the Pacific side of Mexico … looks beautiful!

I could do without the diving part, but Love the rock formations.

I loved the diving but could do without the pharmaceuticals.

I went to Cabo for spring break during my freshman year of college, so I didn’t exactly have the most cultural experience. That said, although we managed to party plenty each night, the days were surprisingly free of that hectic, plastic feeling some party towns get. And of course as you saw, it’s full of natural beauty.

Ha–I’m sure your experience was MUCH different than mine! I had two things on my mind: diving and ice cream (both of which I accomplished) =)

I didn’t know there were underwater national parks! Although, now that I think about it, it seems like quite a must have around the world. I have always wanted to go to Cabo… ever since Laguna Beach on MTV. Haha. But seriously, besides the notoriety, this city looks wonderful.

I’m glad someone else said that because it’s totally what I was thinking, too! I never had a desire to visit Cabo until the Laguna Beach Spring Break episode piqued my interest. I suppose that’s why destination marketing companies pay so much money to get episodes of shows like The Bachelor to film on location in their countries!

Such contrasting sides of Cabo–but all of them lovely!

You had me at diet pills. 🙂 I’ve only recently had the desire to visit Cabo, but it got on my radar because of the nearby surfing spots. And the color of the water, of course.

One of my most favorite places to visit! Great photos, thanks for sharing them.

    Hey Kristine!

Cabo is a great place for fun and relaxation. I’ve only been once and it was during a cruise, so I only got to stay for one day, but I do want to go back for an extended stay. I was a bit shocked when I saw the drugs you could buy without a perscription! I want to learn how to dive and get certified. Is there anywhere in Cabo that you would recommend?

Yay, I love Cabo San Lucas especially for diving and if you are a real dive adventure like me head 25 hours by boat to Las Revillagigedos which is basically Mexicos answer to the Galapagos. Great article and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it…
