Now that I’m writing about Nashville every day for work—both as co-editor of the city magazine and as a food blogger for YP—I’m uncovering more things to love about Music City every day. Here are just a few that are making me happy right now.
1) Premiums at The Goo Goo Shop
Have I mentioned I love chocolate? Hmm. Well, I do! I know you’re not shocked that our beloved century-old premium candy brand opening its first brick and mortar made me blissfully happy. Even more exciting? They now offer Premium Goo Goos in a bevy of exciting flavors like Nutella and Peanut Butter Pretzel.
2) everything at Biscuit Love Brunch
The folks behind the popular food truck of the same name debuted their brick and mortar last month to immediate success (and long weekend lines). Lucky for any of you visiting on a weekday, they’re open every day of the week. I finally ate there on Wednesday, and let’s just say I already have a breakfast date there this coming week, as well. Because biscuit French toast is something I can 100% back, no questions asked.
3) the streetwear at DCXV Industries
I met Adrien Saporiti two years ago right as he was gaining traction with his Music City-branded apparel. He also happens to be the guy behind the trio of highly Instagrammable “I Believe in Nashville” murals—and just 27 years old—and has a great little shop tucked away off Porter Road. Don’t believe me that this rock-and-roll guy is the real deal? Just do a quick Google search for “DCXV”—the Roman numerals for Nashville’s area code—and you’ll find everyone from Miranda Lambert to Foo Fighters (to yes, Kari Luna below) have donned his duds.

4) Lucie Silvas’ EP
I met this charming British songbird while working on our Music Issue and her self-titled EP came out last week. It. Is. Fantastic. Do yourself a favor and download it now, then listen to the Roy Orbison cover she and boyfriend John Osborne (as in the Brothers Osborne) performed at 3rd and Lindsley last month. I wish I’d filmed the whole thing so I could play it on a loop at home.

5) the Lemongrass Chicken Skewers at Thai Esane
With all the culinary buzz coming out of this town, it’s about damn time Nashville gets more of an international influence on its ethnic scene. I’ve eaten through about a third of the menu at Thai Esane on the six occasions I’ve eaten there since it opened last summer, and I have to say that the skewers are the current frontrunners—though everything on the menu is delicious actually. Don’t believe me? Then listen to the fine folks at Conde Nast Traveler who already designated it one of the best new restaurants in the South.
Great post!!
Thanks, Jere!
i am loving this cool Nashville blog called Camels & Chocolate! check it out sometime.
I am loving this cool Nashvillian who sometimes makes cameos via funny faces on this blog called Camels & Chocolate.
I just moved out of Nashville at the beginning of last year (to go live in Costa Rica), but I go back for at least one week every year (and two this year!) and one of the main things I target is food. I always have my old favorites, but I’ve loved the posts you’ve been putting together about must-eat places and new places, so I’ve definitely been building up my list of places to try.
Happy to oblige =) It’s so crazy all the new stuff that has opened up since last spring, and there are at least another dozen restaurants debuting in 2015 that have me really excited!
Those lemongrass chicken skewers look INSANE. (In a good way, obvs.)
I visited Nashville in June and LOVED IT. And I didn’t even go to any of these places! (Except DCXV, I did stumble upon their store and afterwards went to the mural). My favorite places were Pinewood Social and Fido. I’ll have to plan another trip to check out your recommendations!
Hi Kristin,
I am a chocolate lover and loves to try anything new to eat when visiting new places. Your lemongrass chicken photos makes me hungry now! and gaining weight for me is not an issue as long i tried delicious new food. 🙂
