Why Camels & Chocolate?
In the six years since this site has been up and running, C&C has won the coveted Best Travel Weblog Award at the Bloggies for three straight years and was retired to “Hall of Fame” status in 2011. We also have been named to many “Best of” lists, from Chris Elliott’s blogs to read to Mashable’s Travel Twitter Accounts to Follow to Tripbase’s round-up of favorite travel writers, and featured on various websites like the LATimes.com, National Geographic Traveler, the Travel Channel and Wired.com, and in magazines like Marie Claire. For a comprehensive list of C&C’s accolades and acknowledgements, visit our media page.
Posts and articles, which number more than 1,000 on destinations from the Arctic Circle to the South Pacific, run the gamut from CouchSurfing in Iceland to adventure travel in New Zealand to five-star stays in Africa—you’ll find a little bit of everything around these parts. We post between two and four times a week and always run a visuals-heavy Photo Friday; we firmly believe that the best blogs are about quality, not quantity.
All opinions are strictly our own and are not influenced by any person, property or board of tourism. All information is accurate at the time of publication, but in the travel world things are always a changin’, so if you notice a discrepancy, please feel free to let us know.
Due to Kristin’s job as a travel journalist writing for some of the best travel magazines, guidebooks and websites in the industry, we have a devoted following of other travel editors, fellow luxury travelers, and those who dream of quitting their desk job and flitting about the globe with no end in sight. We have readers in more than 100 countries, though the majority come from the following nations, in this order:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- New Zealand
What Does My Money Get Me?
Standard banners (JPEG or GIF files) are 250 x 250 banners, though we have the flexibility to customize the size and shape of your ad. We also accept sidebar text links, vertical banners in the internal pages and video embeds on the homepage. Payment is accepted via PayPal (plus the processing fee), and contracts are done on a rolling, monthly basis. E-mail us at CamelsAndChocolate (at) gmail (dot) com for more information on advertising inquiries. Only serious inquiries, please!
Can I Submit My Travel Product for Review?
Sure. We will feature books or products that we can honestly back, but we have a commitment to our readers to provide honest coverage and disclose all complimentary products. Contact me at CamelsAndChocolate (at) gmail (dot) com for more details. We do not post press releases or promote contests for free.
Do You Accept Press Trips?
Due to Kristin’s career as a travel journalist, we have little time for travel that is not for our day jobs, so travel solely for this site is taken on a case-by-case basis. Still, we’re more than happy to hear and discuss your proposal, as you never know when we might find ourselves in your neck of the woods…
Can I Write for You?
Currently, this site is run, written, photographed and managed by Kristin and SVV. However, from time to time, we’ll be off on a far-flung long journey with limited Internet access and have a need for guest bloggers. If you have something you’d like to write about, let’s chat and we might be able to use it next time we’re away. Absolutely no spam pitches please—we get enough of those as it is!
