Why Camels & Chocolate?
In the seven years since this site has been up and running, C&C has placed among the most coveted “Best of” lists, from Chris Elliott’s “Elliott Awards” in 2012, 2013 and 2015 to Best Travel Weblog Award at the Bloggies (retiring to “Hall of Fame” status in 2011). We also have been named to Mashable’s Travel Twitter Accounts to Follow and Tripbase’s round-up of favorite travel writers, and we’ve been featured on various high-profile websites like the LATimes.com, National Geographic Traveler, the Travel Channel and Wired.com, and in magazines like Marie Claire. For a comprehensive list of C&C’s accolades and acknowledgements, visit our media page.
Posts and articles, which number more than 1,000 (not including placements in traditional print and online media) on destinations from the Arctic Circle to the South Pacific, run the gamut from CouchSurfing in Iceland to adventure travel in New Zealand to five-star stays in Africa—you’ll find a little bit of everything around these parts. We firmly believe that the best blogs are about quality, not quantity.
All opinions are strictly our own and are not influenced by any person, property or board of tourism. All information is accurate at the time of publication, but in the travel world things are always a changin’, so if you notice a discrepancy, please feel free to let us know.
Due to Kristin’s job as a travel journalist writing for some of the best travel magazines, guidebooks and websites in the industry, we have a devoted following of other travel editors, fellow luxury travelers, and those who dream of quitting their desk job and flitting about the globe with no end in sight. We have 65,000 monthly readers in more than 100 countries but most of our traffic comes from the United States. PageRank 6 and a Klout Score of 74 reflects our influence and engagement across the media spectrum in the travel realm.
What Type of Placement Can I Purchase?
Standard banners in the sidebar are 250 x 250 px, though in special cases we can increase the height of an ad. Text links fly high up on the homepage and video embeds and non-standard sized ads go in the footer. All ads are sitewide unless specific placement is desired. Pricing starts at $250 per month for banners and $50 per month for text. Contracts are done on a rolling, monthly basis or straight up sponsorship packaging. E-mail us at CamelsAndChocolate (at) gmail (dot) com for advertising inquiries. These days, with the dilution and stratification of the media due to the rise of myriad social channels, each advertiser is a unique animal that often requires a holistic approach. We will work with you to achieve your goals, with sponsored advertorials deserving special consideration.
Can I Submit My Travel Product for Review?
Sure, but if you paste a press release into an email to us it will no doubt be forgotten. The last time we paid the rent with a sweater or press trip was.. well, never! We will feature books or products that we honestly use and enjoy, but we have a commitment to our readers to provide honest coverage. Contact me at CamelsAndChocolate (at) gmail (dot) com for more details. We do not post press releases or promote contests.
Do You Accept Press Trips?
With a full time career as a travel and magazine journalist, we have little time for travel that is not for our day jobs. Still, we’re happy to hear and discuss your proposal, as you never know when we might find ourselves in your neck of the woods…
Can I Write for You?
Probably not. Currently, this site is run, written, photographed and managed by Kristin and SVV. If you have something you’d like us to write about, let’s chat and we might be able to work up an influencer package. Absolutely no spammy pitches please—we get enough of those!
