Win a Stay in New Mexico’s Hyatt Resort—or Beyond!

As many of you might know, I spent a few summers in college working on a ranch in Arizona. I developed an affinity—more accurately, an obsession—for the Southwest and am forever dreaming about going back there and taking SVV, a novice to the area.

At the close of each summer, a few of us worker bees would take the kids on a camping excursion called Caravan. During those few weeks, we’d cover most of Northern Arizona and Southern Utah and occasionally venture into Colorado and New Mexico if that particular summer wasn’t plagued by fires. Sadly, I only ever made it to the Four Corners area of New Mexico, so ever since then, Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos have been high on my list of domestic vacation spots. (Unfortunately, I’ve yet to find affordable airfare from San Francisco to there!)

Enter: the Hyatt Blogger Ambassador program. My lovely friends at Hyatt are back with another fantastic giveaway for one of my readers. This particular giveaway pertains to the Hyatt Resorts, so I thought it fitting to highlight the resort I would visit were I to win such a contest: the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa. The general manager dropped by to answer some questions about the property:

Why is fall a great time of year to visit New Mexico?

With the changing of seasons comes the celebration of Chile Harvest in New Mexico. Not only can guests enjoy the beautiful fall foliage and décor around the Hyatt Regency Tamaya, they can also take part in one of New Mexico’s largest traditions: Chile Harvest. The Hyatt celebrates Chile Harvest with multiple activities for guests including:

  • “Chile Chat” courses designed by our executive chef to teach guests how to better appreciate and cook with chile
  • Tours of the famous El Pinto Chile Factory with chile roasting and cooking demonstrations
  • Tours of the Tamaya Corn Mill located at the Santa Ana Pueblo’s Cooking Post
  • Chile pre-fixe menu at the Corn Maiden restaurant that infuses local red and green chile into every course
  • Signature “Ancient Drumming” treatment at the Tamaya Mist Spa that includes use of anatural, chile-infused mud masque
  • Limited Edition Red Chile Martini featured at the resort’s Rio Grande Lounge

In addition, the area surrounding the Hyatt Regency Tamaya provides an ideal setting for enjoying the beauty of the fall foliage and natural scenery. The resort offers “Fall Foliage” hayrides and nature walks through the cottonwood Bosque. With the convenient location on the Santa Ana Pueblo, between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, guests are also only a short trip away from fall events taking place in Old Town Albuquerque.

What are some of the major draws of your pocket of the Southwest in particular?

The resort has spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains and Rio Grande River and overlooks the “Bosque,” the native cottonwood forest indigenous to the region. The climate in this part of New Mexico is very mild and offers ideal weather conditions to enjoy the exciting outdoor activities available on-property virtually year-round. Additionally, this particular region is rich with culture and visitor activities that celebrate authentic Native American traditions, providing a memorable experience with every visit.

In your opinion, what are some of the best activities on and off the property that hotel-goers can enjoy?

From playing golf at the nationally-ranked Twin Warriors Golf Club to receiving a signature spa treatment at the award-winning Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon, there are many great activities for guests to experience at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya. The resort also offers many unique experiences including hot air balloon rides, rodeo training and guided horseback riding along the Rio Grande.

Perhaps one of the most praised offerings is the resort’s Srai-Wri (meaning “to gather children together and share with them” in the Santa Ana Pueblo’s native language) program, which offers something for the entire family like traditional pueblo bread baking classes, pottery making classes, yoga, golf, and storytelling under the stars.

What are some of the things that set the Hyatt Regency Tamaya apart from other properties in the area?

Located on more than 500 acres of a Native American Reservation, the Hyatt Regency Tamaya is one of the largest resorts built on Native American land. Designed with traditional pueblo-style architecture, the resort offers an experience rich with history and culture married with modern and award-winning resort amenities. The resort also has a Tamaya Culture Museum and Learning Center whichis dedicated to the history, culture, and art of the Santa Ana Pueblo.

Tom and I can’t really afford vacations right now (other than the imposed ones we HAVE to pay for such as one over new years eve in Santa Barbara), but I would love to win three nights in Nashville! My brother’s college graduation is in May (just a few days before my grad school graduation, talk about a crazy weekend), and with all the family going in I’m not sure Tom and I will be able to crash on couches and the like (nor do we really want to….). Getting to stay at a Hyatt while we are there (I think the airport one is closest to downtown and actually in the city) would be pretty much a dream come true…. less stress on my family, less stress (emotional and financial) on us! If I won free nights at the Hyatt I think I’d use those airline miles I have been stockpiling (because I can’t afford to pay for a hotel room, I am a pathetic poor student!) to go to Charleston and Savannah. Which would make South Carolina and Georgia states #46 and #47!

…and I really need to get out of Vegas for a while!!! New Mexico would be perfect :)

  258. Emily says:

Just liked you on FB :) I would stay at one of the Hyatt hotels in Seattle! I lived in a duplex for a year and a half next to an amazing family. The parents and 3 teenagers spent six years living in an RV and traveling around the US together, then settled Austin, where we lived next to each other. I became extremely close with them–they were like my family away from home. They are total artsy free spirits. Then a few months ago, they moved to Seattle. I am DYING to visit them, and I saw that Hyatt has several hotels in Seattle!

  259. Definitely would like to stay at the Tamaya Resort. I’ve seen it (Gorgeous!) but never stayed there. It looks SOOO relaxing. And I’ll be liking your Facebook Page, too. And even though its the last possible minute, I’ll tweet your contest on twitter. (already follow you on Twitter and RSS.)

Congratulations on being one of the top ten travel writers at Tribase.com!!!

    Vera
