Photo Friday: Sydney, Australia

It’s truly one of the loveliest cities I’ve had the chance to visit, and I only got but 48 hours—24 coming, 24 going—within Sydney’s confines. (This time.)

A gloomy, dripping and biting 48 hours at that—it is winter Down Under, after all—but 48 hours nonetheless.

On the final night in Sydney, I left my camera back at our hotel for an adventure in gastronomy at Circular Quay’s aptly-named Quay. Only, I arrived to find the full moon lighting up the harbor (harbour, for you Aussies/Brits), which only added to its usual brilliance.

I darted back to the Four Seasons—a solid 15-minute jog—ascended the 28 stories quickly by elevator, grabbed my camera (but no tripod, le sad) and returned to the Quay. By that point the moon had disappeared back behind her clouds, not to come out again. Oh well, she was lovely while she lasted.

  1. I am trying so hard not to be depressed about us missing each other, but it’s not working. I’ll just drown my sorrows in double coat Tim Tams. Oh wait… now I’m happy again.

Whatever…I could go on and on about Sydney, but you know how I feel about this joint. Please let us get our travel schedules together!

    and p.s. don’t think I didn’t meet with a migration attorney today.

Someday Australia, but I don’t know how much time I’d spend in the city. Nice night shots of the skyline.

How lovely! Of all the places you’ve talked about visiting, Sydney is one of the few that actually seems attainable to a travel novice like me. Adding it to my bucket list!

  5. Andi says:

I heart Sydney too, but my real love is Melbs! Awesome pics!!!

It’s the clouds in the pictures that I like. Night clouds in long exposures are surreal and ghostly. You just never see them in real life!

  7. Beautiful night shots even without tripod!

  8. Brandy says:

Great pictures! I love Sydney so much – I could definitely see myself living there for a time.

  9. Great night time photography. Seems everyone just loves Sydney, I’m certain I will too if/when I get there!

  10. I agree with Andi, I *love* Melbourne. Beautiful shots!

Oh, & it’s “harbour” for us Canadians as well :)

  11. Lovely post! Australia is number one on my ‘bucket list.’

What incredible pictures! I love love love Sydney…favorite city I’ve ever visited. I got married there, stayed at the Four Seasons and ate dinner the night of the wedding at Quay!!! I hope I can get back there someday.

    These photos are spectacular!
I had the good fortune to spend a sunny summer Sunday in Sydney this past January and loved every minute of it – my first time there, I was so in awe of this place! Recommend Sydney to all & sundry! With many exclamation marks!!! Would’ve spent more time there, but after a month of travel in Aus, in Sydney for the last 2 days, I was more tired than I cared to admit at the time. Australia is not for sissies. Looking forward to a return visit in the next few years, with Sydney first this time.
I really enjoy your travel stories, and also your homecoming-to-TN stories. :)

You really managed to capture this city in pictures! I haven’t seen many evening shots of Sydney…
