Today, I jet off for a very brief assignment in Barbados. Before you get too jealous, it’s such a whirlwind — and I have two pretty in-depth stories to write — that there will be no downtime for sunbathing or frolicking on beaches (though possibly some surf lessons). While I’m thrilled to be back in warmer climate, if only for three days, and stoked to then see SVV again after three weeks apart, I’m always sad to say good-bye to my amazing mom and dad. Because with characters like these, who wouldn’t want to come home often? (Good thing I’ll be back for a very long Christmas in just a month.)

As I sit here freezing in my office in Chicago, where it is a high of 40 today, I envy your trip, whirlwind or not. Hell, I’d envy you if you told me you had a space heater, it is so cold in here!
